In February of 2021 my mother-in-law (who was 78 years old at the time) was hospitalized for a very severe case of shingles that ultimately caused nerve damage. During this time, due to the COVID pandemic, we were not allowed into the hospital to visit and despite best efforts, we were unable to get the hospital caregivers to communicate with us or to give clear communication to my mother-in-law. We were unable to get a clear diagnosis or understand the plan that the medical staff had with respect to my mother-in-law, her care or her recovery.
